There comes a time in life when we all have to make decisions. Dispersing our herd is one of those decisions that we thought about very carefully. Sometimes a person’s health has to come first and the decision was made that it was time for the cows to go.
So, here is a great opportunity to buy into an excellent program. These animals have treated us very well. We believe the Aspen Hill program has a lot of potential. After we bought our first 40+ cows from Boot Jack Ranch, Cliff Haugen passed away and his wife Audrey decided to disperse the Boot Jack herd. The cattle we had bought from the Haugens worked very well, so our thoughts were “If it ain't broke, don't fix it.” The Boot Jack program was considered ahead of its time due to their intense carcass evaluation program. After consulting with Audrey Haugen, we went on to build what she and Cliff had been planning to do next.
The idea was to bring back the genetics that had worked best for them and what had made it possible for them to become recognized as a program ahead of its time. Bring back sires like Rambo 502, Sayre Patriot, Dynamo 614, Hobo, and Canyon Chief 830. The types of bulls that were now removed by four and five generations of breeding. Get as close as possible to those old genetics by using different cow families and run them through again. So our challenge began. We feel today, when we look at our herd and semen inventory that we have accumulated, that we have accomplished our goal. We believe that this is as close as possible to the Boot Jack program in 2008 that you will ever find.
Here is your opportunity to buy into over 50 years of selection and obtaining some of the best carcass genetics in the world.
We would like to thank all the people who have supported us in the past. Your desire to obtain the best genetics available in the Red Angus breed have made the last 16 years the challenge of our lives. It also made it possible for us to put together this great gathering of cattle, embryos and semen that we are offering in our dispersal on October 25, 2008.
