In
the early 1960’s, Ken and Pat purchased and homesteaded
a quarter section of land that is now some of the primary grazing
land for the Aspen Hill ranch. Kelly, along with her 4 sisters,
grew up on that land. Kelly left home after high school to
attend the University of Alberta in Edmonton. She received
her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (1986), majoring in
Animal Science specializing in Livestock Management. Along
the way she met George, who had come east from New Brunswick
during the first Alberta Oil Boom in the late 1970’s.
George is originally from a small Acadian French community
just outside of Moncton, New Brunswick. He is a journeyman
Auto Body Mechanic with numerous other trades tickets in his
resume. He is fluent in both French and English and his ancestors
have been farming on the east coast for generations. Together,
George and Kelly have built their purebred herd up to 150 breeding
females and manage a land base of approximately 3000 acres.
