We
bought our first purebred females in 1992. We had gone on a holiday
in Montana and we had heard that there were lots of good cattle
there. We decided to see what there was in the way of Registered
Red Angus. We knew nothing about the purebred cattle business and
just happened to stumble onto the ranch of Cliff and Audrey Haugen,
owners of Boot Jack Ranches. Little did we know that we couldn't
have landed at a better place. Cliff and Audrey's cattle were known
world wide and had the reputation of being some of the best in the
business. We left their place determined to have some of their cows
and that winter, we bought 8 of them and in the fall of 1997 we
returned for another 30.
In
2001 we added 50 cow/calf pairs to our herd. We purchased them from
Bar 4 A Red Angus (the Atkin family) of LaGlace, Alberta. The Atkins
had been raising and showing Red Angus cattle for 20 years and had
decided to retire from the purebred business. They let us have our
pick out of the 120 cow/calf pairs that they had for sale.
